Basic Team Play Poker Tips
1 – If the only players left in a hand are on your team, the player with lowest chip count (player A) should be allowed to win the hand, so player A's team mates should fold their hands regardless of how good they are.
2 – If the only players left in the hand are on your team, and 1 player (player A) has considerably fewer chips then it's in the team interests for player's B and C to lose some chips to player A, as the object of the game is to keep your team/team mates in the game.
For example Player A has 1000 chips, Player B has 2000 chips – player A would raise 500, player B would call, player A would raise minimum and player B would fold – leaving both players with 1500 chips. Or Player A has 300 chips, player B has 2000 chips and minimum bet is 50 – Player A would raise $250, Player B would call, Player A would go all-in and player B would fold. Never force your team mate to go all-in as you may not be able to fold and you may eliminate your own team mate and therefore score fewer team points.
3 – equally, if your opposition has 1 player with very few chips they will try to force you out of the hand so that they can lose some chips to their player and keep them in the game. Sometimes it's good tactics to block the opposition by calling their bets regardless of your own cards. This can be a little tricky as blocking with nothing can result in a loss of chips to the opposition which you may otherwise have kept.
Example, player A has 300, Player B has 1500 and player X (other team) has 1200. Player B raises 250 to try and knockout player X. If it goes to plan player X folds and player A can then raise to 300 and player B folds. Player A ends up with 550 chips and B ends up with 950 chips, but player A is now in a much safer position. Or Player B raises 250, player X calls, then player A has to either call or fold. Unless player A has a very good hand he/she really doesn't have much choice but to fold. In this scenario, if player A calls and loses player A ends up with only 50 chips, player B gains 250 if he/she wins hand and player X loses 250 chips, but by losing those chips player X has placed player A in a very precarious position
4 – A PLAYER NEVER CALLS A TEAM MATES ALL-IN – NEVER
5 – respect your team mates big blind
Oh okay, thanks flash.
This was a tip provided by another player who is a better player than me but 95% of the time I would fold.
I think if your team mate was extremely low in chips say only had 10 chips and therefore could only gain another 10 chips even if he won, then then I might call or raise.
Then please give me an example of this scenario:
" the only exception being if it is a big pot and that pot will stay in the team. "
Quite simply, I would fold. The aim of the game is to keep as many team mates as possible in the game as long as possible, thereby hopefully scoring more team points.
...that is to say a full house or better before the turn.
4) If a team mate goes all in it is imperative we all fold ..." the only exception being if it is a big pot and that pot will stay in the team. "
What would be the best play if one's teammate (with low stack) bets pre flop and then raises after the flop and you hit a full house or better...what would you do?
And just to reiterate 3 main rules for team play you must adhere too
1: If a team m8 goes all-in,,,,always fold, no matter what you have
2: Always try to share chips with a team m8 if they are short stacked and you have plenty
3: There is " NO I " in team
Here is a set of team rules written by another member of our league.
Please note, the maximum of 3 players in the hand when the flop is turned relates to a 5v5 tournament so for a 3v3 or 4v4 tournament you wouldn't want to see anymore than 2 players in the hand.
1) There should only be a maximum of 3 of us in the hand when the flop is turned, we don't want to give chips away cheaply in the early levels as when the blinds raise we will be putting pressure on ourselves if low stacked.
2) Let the low stacked team mate always dictate how betting goes unless the position is right to try and share chips.
3) Always keep an eye on our team mates chip stacks and who will have big blinds.
4) If a team mate goes all in it is imperative we all fold the only exception being if it is a big pot and that pot will stay in the team.
5) Sharing chips can be hard especially in Omaha but must try on all occasions to try and pass to our low stacked team mate.
6) Remember let's have fun and enjoy and I believe those ingredients will help us all to be relaxed and play better as a team.
